Three week old, “orphaned Annie”.

A tiny soul named Little Helen found herself orphaned at a mere three weeks old. With her mother tragically taken from her in a heart-wrenching motor vehicle accident, Little Helen faced a bleak and uncertain future. Recognizing the immense challenge of her survival in a makeshift stable in Freedom Farm, her owner asked if we could take Little Helen to our Recovery and Rehabilitation Centre (R&R). Little Helen, lovingly dubbed Orphan Annie, blossomed under our care for seven transformative months. If we did not have our Recovery and Rehabilitation Centre, her fate would have been one of loneliness and heartbreak.

Little Helen not so little anymore.

How gorgeous is this precious girl.

Recently, Little Helen faced yet another hurdle on her life’s journey. Colic, a menacing condition that afflicts horses, struck her badly. We rushed Little Helen to Blue Cross vet for specialized treatment. For a week, the dedicated team at Blue Cross fought alongside her, sparing no effort to bring her back to health. However, the medical bill amounted to a staggering R30,000. As much as we wished to keep her under their care, the weight of the financial burden forced us to bring Little Helen home, where we monitored her every day.
