Every day our inspectors are on the road. Because we are proactive, we don’t wait for complaints, we patrol daily, checking every cart horse we see to make sure they are safe, healthy, and fit to work.
If we receive a complaint, we respond immediately.
If there is a veterinary emergency, we drop everything and go.
Two of our vehicles permanently have horse boxes attached, so if a cart horse is injured, collapsed, or severely ill, we can load them immediately. This rapid response has saved countless lives. But there is one challenge we simply cannot escape…
Petrol!
Our inspectors drive hundreds of kilometers every week across the Cape Flats, responding to emergencies, doing welfare checks, and preventing suffering before it starts.
Our monthly petrol bill is R20 000+, and with fuel prices on the rise, it will become harder to keep our inspectors on the road where cart horses need them most.
