Field Logistics and Support Assistant
Cart Horse Protection Association has a vacancy for a Field Logistics and Support Assistant at the Epping clinic site.
We seek a candidate who has strong administration and time management skills and an ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy.
The primary role for this position will be the co-ordination of logistics for the Field departments to ensure effective service delivery to our beneficiaries.
Candidates must meet the following entry requirements:
- Unendorsed Code EB drivers licence with experience in trucking horses an advantage
- Equine knowledge & experience an advantage
- Strong organisational skills
- Excellent time management skills
- Good level of physical fitness
- Proven experience of work both as part of a team and independently
- Proven interpersonal skills
- An ability to co-ordinate multiple tasks at one time
- Good administrative skills and computer literacy
- Grade 12 level of education
- No criminal record
- Good communication skills – fluency in English and Afrikaans essential
- Ability to think logically and have good judgement
- Accurate report writing ability
- Ability to problem solve

Job purpose:
To facilitate the co-ordination of logistics for the Field departments to ensure effective service delivery.
The primary role of the Field Logistics and Support Assistant includes, but is not limited to:
Operational:
- Opening of roller shutter door in the mornings and closing it at the end of the working day
- Taking out vehicles in the mornings before clinic opens
- Putting off the electric fence in the morning and back on at the end of the day
- Putting main gate onto manual in the morning and back on at the end of clinic
- Feed sales (including feed relief bales stock control), as per the owners file
- Taking delivery of feed, arranging for additional help when you need it, from the Inspectors and carties
- Cleaning and keeping tidy the feed room, including the packaging of loose feed in the store room for re-sale or feed relief
- Release of feed for the afternoon clinics
- Taking old shoes to the scrap yard
- Booking and facilitating the vehicle (including horse boxes) services, tyre repairs, alignments and purchases for all vehicles
- Take delivery of shavings (donated and bought)
- Supervision of the grounds man to ensure that he performs all his duties, including: Cleaning of Epping clinic site – inside (sweeping floors and drains) and farrier toilet, bringing in water buckets and feed bins from outside after Epping clinics, scoop up horse manure outside the clinic site, pick up litter inside and outside of the Epping site and cleaning of the ashtray
- General housekeeping – ensure that the grounds at Epping remain free of rubbish, manure etc. on the days that the grounds man isn’t on duty
- Putting out municipal waste for collection
- Collection and deliveries e.g. donations, 2nd hand tack etc.
- Field purchases (Agrimark, uniforms, vehicle needs, first aid box supplies, cat food etc.)
- Collection of halters, shoe stock, cart repair materials, supplements and harness stock as ordered
Administrative:
- Monthly stock-take of feed
- Taking orders for E53’s and ID plates from the carties and then placing the orders of E53’s and ID plates with the suppliers
- Taking delivery of, marking off as received and distribution of the E53’s and ID plates
- Vehicle checklists at month end (if driver not able to do this at month end)
- Vehicle license renewals – process
- Process insurance claims for vehicle accidents
- Arrange for the annual cutting of the grass on the open plot at Epping
- Maintenance of Epping clinic site (fire care, gate maintenance, electric fence maintenance, completion of the H&S maintenance record every 3 months, alarm maintenance)
- Ordering of supplements as needed e.g. salt licks, feed stock (oat hay and 10% *including the bags for the R&R), shavings, halters, shoe stock (as well as hoof grease/Stockholm tar/tools etc.), cart repair materials and harness stock as needed
