Living on the Cape Flats, horses face a constant threat that many might find surprising—dog attacks.
Zelda, a resilient and extraordinary horse, recently found herself in a life-or-death struggle against a dog that was relentless in attacking her. Her remarkable story serves as a testament to her bravery and highlights the ongoing need for support in protecting these vulnerable animals.
As Zelda made her way home from our clinic, she suddenly became the target of an unleashed dog. Determined to defend herself, she valiantly fought back, using every ounce of strength to ward off the aggressive dog. The intense struggle led to a chaotic scene, with the cart drivers being thrown from the cart as Zelda raced towards safety, home!
Upon receiving the distress call from Zelda’s owner, our team raced to Zelda’s aid. Miraculously, Zelda’s injuries were superficial. Zelda was provided with thorough medical attention so as to minimize the risk of infection.
EWP and Inspector Jolize, deeply committed to Zelda’s well-being, continued to visit her daily. This ongoing care ensured that Zelda’s wounds were monitored closely, facilitating a smooth and speedy recovery. The bond forged between Zelda and Inspector Jolize serves as a testament that the sick and injured cart horses know we are there to help.
Zelda’s ordeal is a stark reminder that dog attacks pose a threat to horses on the Cape Flats. The demand for our services remains high as more equine companions face similar perilous situations. Financial support is critical to sustaining our efforts and providing comprehensive care for these hard-working cart horses.
