Violet was a brave and strong cart horse. She was rescued by CHPA from a cruel owner who made her pull a heavy bakkie on her cart. She was brought to our Recovery and Rehabilitation Centre in Gordon’s Bay, where she received the care, love and attention she deserved. She also had a wonderful surprise for everyone: she was pregnant with a baby girl!
On 8 October 2023, Violet gave birth to a beautiful and healthy foal, who we named Grace. Grace was the spitting image of her mother, with the same soft fur and gentle eyes. She was a bundle of joy and happiness for everyone, especially Violet.
Sadly, Violet’s life was cut short by a sudden heart attack, when Grace was just 72 hours old! She passed away in her stable, surrounded by her friends in the other stables.
Grace was heartbroken by the loss of her mother, but she was not alone. She had four caring and compassionate staff members who stepped in to take care of her, twenty/four/seven. They fed Grace, groomed her and comforted her. They became her new family, and they love her as much as Violet did.
