Often see an unlicensed cart in this suburb, horse was dark brown with white socks. Seen on de Grendal road around 12:30. A handwritten notice showed the name Michael, but could not see other detail.

  6. Sorry for late posting.. Saw horse 108, a white horse on 23 Sept. They were heading onto the Koeberg interchange from Milnerton side. Lots of traffic, taxis in a rush. Horse was trotting but he was pushing her hard with the whip. Horse seemed stressed by volume and closeness of traffic.

  7. saw horse & cart [number 13] turning in amongst’ very heavy’ traffic ,Montague Drive,by Canal walk at approx 1.30 pm Friday 30 September. 8. I saw 433 on Voortrekker road on Thursday eve, but didnt have time to stop. The horse didnt look great from a distance, a bit on the thin side. I think the traffic may have been distressing to the poor horse.

  10. 23 October Posting for your tracking info!
Saw No.560 on Steenhoven Road in Bothasig today around 11:00. Although some goods on the cart did not appear too heavy. All in all looked comfortable. As I’m normally driving do not always see the name.
    Thanks

  11. I saw PRINSIE ID 701 near Steenberg station in Plumstead at 6:55pm. I stopped due to the behavior of the driver who was yelling and pulling sharply on the one rein and hitting the the horse’s side with the other rain. I stopped him and informed him that his horse is looking too thin and that he needs to be more gentle with his hands. He seemed intoxicated and told me that he receives no help from the CHPA and that he has no money for food. I did not offer him any money. He seemed to agree to be more gentle, but then was hitting his horse again as he went off.

Please let me know if there is anything I can or should do?

    Meagan

  12. I saw 172 (sorry did not get name) in Giel Basson Avenue on 7Feb around 16:15. The horse looked a bit thin, but otherwise seemed ok.

  13. Thanks Amanda for letting us know. Horse 172 is Junior – I will pass this onto our Inspectors and ask them to do a follow up check on him.

  14. Amanda, as promised some feedback from Diana re 172. He was at Epping last Friday or Thursday. Then he was in acceptable condition. He was shod. With these hot days, he can lose condition, because he has the body that looses condition very quickly, and gain quickly as well. He normally works in the Plattekloof. Panorama area. Sometimes Kuilsriver. He is a very arrogant horse with a stinking attitude. Bites like his father Evil. When he is dehydrated he can look ribby. Regards Megan

  15. Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I spotted Mona (I think her number is #767) and I must say, I was shocked at her body weight. Luckily I had just arrived home and waved the two boys (must have been aged 12/13) to stop so that I could give her some yummy carrots and apples. I stood there watching her eat and felt so sorry for her, she is EXTREMELY thin at present and her hind legs are bony, pointing out in all directions and her legs are very skinny. I asked them if I could give her some water but they declined saying that she would dehydrate and die…I get that they were looking after her but how can you not give a horse water on a 39 degree day while she’s pulling quite a big load!

Please can someone check up on Mona and ensure her health is okay as I’m quite concerned about her body weight.

    Regards,

    Keighley

  16. No one answered Meagans report above. Was it followed up? Re:Prinsie 701. That was also 7pm at night. Should they be out that late even in summer?

  17. Today 20th march 2012, at Section Street Brooklyn near Northlink Centre,as reported to your call centre at 16h30;
Cart horse Bonnie no; 690, abused by her operator, and an ill fitting rig tying her to the cart. The operator pulling her sharply by the bit repeatedly, surely injuring her mouth. The operator hitting Bonnie with a balled fist on her neck repeatedly, shouting abuse at her for stopping every time the ill fitting rig came loose, and the horse stopped walking.
Will someone be checking on Bonnie?

    Regards,
    Bruce.

  18. Saw Happy Feet 602 on Tuesday 20Mar12 around 4pm in Jan Smuts drive going towards Viking Way carrying a load and a mattress on top. Could not get a good look at the horse’s condition as I was driving.

  19. I sighted cart 992 with white horse. Did not pick up name. Horse starting to look a little on the lean side.

  20. Hi Amanda, Happy Feet has a very good owner and is always in good condition. Thanks for posting your sighting. Megan

  21. I spotted horsey #421 yesterday (10Apr12) around 4pm going up the bridge towards Viking Way in Pinelands. She is a beautiful white/blonde horse and in good condition, but was dripping wet with sweat when I passed her. I could’nt judge how heavy the load was that she was carrying, but there was a mattress on top of a lot of stuff. Hope she had a good rest after the hard work yesterday!
    Regards
    Amanda

  22. Dear Amanda, thank you for posting your sighting. You saw Trigger, a grey stallion belonging to Mr Desmond Fredericks. I will ask the Inspectors to watch out for him at the clinics. Regards Megan

  23. Hi Tracey, 992 is Brownette – will ask Diana and Karin to keep an eye. Thanks for the post. Megan

  24. I was sitting in my car about a week ago in maitland and got very upset when i saw a horse being hit repeatedly. I do understand the road was very busy, a tap or two should suffice surely… I could hear each blow landing(there was a wide grass pavement between me and the road) and the horse seemed terrified and tried to pull away. The horses name was diamond and it’s number was either 880 or 889 i couldn’t tell properly as it was slightly obscured.

Also thank you for the amazing work your organisation is doing. I make a point of checking for names and numbers. I have noticed a cart with no info displayed in the Richwood area.

  25. I saw Kroon (#71) yesterday in the Thornton area around 16:00 happily trodding along at a relaxed pace.
Thanks for your fabulous work. Regards, Amanda

  26. Thanks for the wonderful feedback Amanda.
